Participants will get hands-on experience working with various editors at Mongabay, helping them develop their environmental reporting skills and build a portfolio of original publications.

The experience is designed to enhance their credibility and advance their careers in journalism and communications.

The fellowship runs twice a year, from April 1 to September 30 and from October 1 to March 31. Each fellow will receive a stipend of $500 USD per month over the six-month period, totalling $3,000 USD. Fellows are expected to commit 10 hours per week and produce one story monthly, resulting in six stories over the fellowship duration.

The program is open to applicants from low- to upper-middle-income tropical countries, as classified by the World Bank, excluding high-income tropical countries like Singapore and Australia.

Applicants must be aspiring, early-career environmental journalists capable of working remotely and committed to the fellowship’s requirements.
