The Pulitzer Center, a nonprofit organization committed to supporting independent global journalism, has launched an ambitious new reporting initiative to uncover the impact of climate change on workers and work environments.
The initiative, titled “Our Work/Environment,” invites journalists worldwide to apply for grants to explore the multifaceted effects of climate change on various employment sectors and practices.
This initiative seeks to illuminate the pressing climate risks unfolding in fields and factories and being deliberated in boardrooms worldwide.
With rising global temperatures, the project aims to address crucial questions: How will jobs and employment sectors be affected? What manufacturing processes—from computer chips to food production—are at risk? Critical factors such as heat and water competition are expected to be key areas of focus.
According to The Pulitzer Center, stories that shed light on labour rights and the livelihoods of vulnerable workers, including women who are often heads of households will be of outmost interest.
Journalists from all regions, including Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America, are encouraged to apply.
Applicants are required to provide a project description (no more than 250 words), a preliminary budget estimate, and a compelling distribution plan. Proposals should also include letters of commitment from outlets where the stories will be published. Creative strategies for engaging diverse audiences are encouraged.
