The IOM COP29 Youth Delegates on Climate Migration initiative is now seeking passionate young people from around the globe, inviting them to join the vanguard of climate action at the upcoming COP29 conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, this November.
COP29, scheduled for November 11-22, 2024, promises to be more than just another global summit. It is a crucible moment, where nations will reckon with their commitments to curb greenhouse gas emissions and confront the grim realities of a warming world.
The numbers alone are sobering: over 26 million internal displacements in 2023, with forecasts predicting that, without decisive action, up to 216 million could be forced to migrate within their own countries by 2050.
Yet amidst these staggering statistics, the most vulnerable—children and youth—remain largely invisible in the policy discourse.
Enter the IOM’s latest initiative, a clarion call to young people aged 18 to 30 who have felt the sting of displacement or have dedicated themselves to the cause of climate justice.
The selected youth delegates will engage in a series of preparatory activities—webinars, workshops, consultations, and advocacy campaigns—designed to arm them with the knowledge and tools needed to influence global policy on climate migration.
